Have you ever wondered how long lost luggage stays before it is replaced? I bet you have, but did you know that sometimes even lost luggage is found? Now, this scenario can be very stressful, especially if your luggage is a precious thing. However, you must never let your emotions overcome you; instead, stay calm and consider possible solutions to solve them as soon as possible.
When I was travelling to Morocco last year, I went through an exciting experience. I arrived at the airport with my luggage bags and realized that they were missing something. My luggage was missing two of its handles! It was a terrible feeling to realize that something so valuable has just got stolen from you. However, you shouldn’t fret over lost luggage; there are several things that you can do while travelling to minimize the chances of having it stolen.
If you are travelling abroad for the first time, there is a possibility that you will be flying with a small international flight. Most international flights have an area code that one can follow. So, when travelling abroad, you simply need to check which area code is applicable. Usually, if major airline companies operate the international flight, they provide a tracking service for lost luggage. You will just need to contact them to report the loss. It can be tough to find a lost international flight ticket, so I highly recommend that you call the airline company to verify if they offer such a service or not.
o If you are travelling abroad by land, there is another way that you can deal with lost luggage. Rather than taking the chance of travelling by land and contacting the local airport, what you can do instead is to call the international airport. There are several international airports around the globe. Some of them even offer tracking systems to help travellers track their lost luggage. This may not be the fastest method, but it may be the most convenient one if you have enough time. However, this option is only suitable for international airfares; if your flight is scheduled to depart from the destination airport, it would be better to contact them directly.
o International data transfer is not the only way to deal with lost luggage; if you are travelling abroad by ship, you can use one of the many international parcel services available nowadays. The shipping companies usually have offices located worldwide, especially in significant seaports like Tokyo, London, etc. Once you have made the payment, you can expect your parcel to be delivered to your destination, so there should be no problem. However, if you are travelling by air, the rules may differ slightly. For instance, some international air freight services do not allow goods that need to be checked on any of their flights.
o If possible, it is best to contact the embassy of the country where you are travelling before setting off. The embassy or consulate of the country you are going to will likely have a vaccination card, and they can help you out if you happen to get lost during the international trip. You may also want to bring your passport and immunization card with you, just in case. This is because the embassy may not issue you a passport for a few days due to certain formalities.
